June see’s the end of Term 3 2017/2018 for our recreation members which means that we at Sugarloaf Gymnastics are looking forward to one of our favourite events of the year, our annual GymSTART Awards!
Normal classes will not be running on this day at 9.15am and 10.25am. Our sessions will run similar to our Christmas Showcases, 1 hour in length, always with another session to follow so we have a tight timetable and continue to strive to keep to time as we always do!
Arrival / Location / Parking
All sessions will take place at the training centre which will have seating laid out. Please do not arrive too early for your gymnasts session, due to the limited space, you will not be allowed to enter the gym. We may not be in a position to accommodate gymnasts arriving late or at the incorrect session time. Gymnasts and families will enter through the main door and exit through the roller door at the end of the gym. Gymnasts will not put anything in the lockers, parents/guardians will be responsible for their belongings. There is limited parking in the business park but there is ample parking outside on the road on the way into the business park, we encourage you to park there. Please be conscious of cars and pedestrians in the business park.
Availability
With a large number of our members participating we understand that the allocated time/day may not suit. In this case please email jamie[@]sugarloafgymnastics.ie with your gymnasts full name, class day and time, we will try our best to accommodate you but it may not be possible. Please note that it is impossible for us to timetable multiple family members into the one session given the numbers participating. If your gymnast is not available, we may be able to accommodate you at a further stage but this is not always possible.
Audience
Parents/ Guardians are welcome to attend, there will be very limited seating available. In order for families to watch their gymnast in comfort we must kindly request that only 2 people per family attend.
Attire
Leotard or regular gym clothing. We suggest bringing as little as possible to the training centre this day due to the amount of people that will be there. Hair must be tied back.
What day / time is my gymnast on at?
The majority of members will have been issued with a note in class. Please keep this note safe, stick it on your fridge or note the date in your diary. A reminder of times can be found on a timetable in the gym from the beginning of June, however we are not in a position to put a copy online and due to the number of participants, we cannot issue reminders via email.
Some members will have been given their information via email (all Saturday classes). Information in this paragraph is valid of 29th May 2018.
Challenge Format
Gymnasts are grouped by Level and Date of Birth from across all of our classes, meaning that your gymnast may not be with gymnasts from their group. We group the children by date of birth as there may be different maturity or development levels from a child born in (for example) January 2010 and December 2010.
They will perform the skills for our Judges (our coaches who are Gymnastics Ireland qualified judges). If 7/10 skills are performed well to a high level, the gymnast will be awarded a certificate and medal of their Level. The top 3 scoring gymnasts at each level will be awarded a bronze, silver or gold medal. Levels range from 1 (easiest) to 10 (most difficult), the higher level badges feature difficult skills and can often take 2 years to pass. This year we have introduced “Plus Levels” from L6 onwards (eg. L6+, L7+ etc) which are an in between level when the next level might be just out of reach for a gymnast. Please visit the GymStart Awards 2018 post in the news section of our website for more information on the Challenge.
List of Skills
Can be seen here: Sugarloaf GymSTART Awards 2018 (1) or on the noticeboard in the training centre. It is not possible to email these to members.
These Levels have been designed and carefully thought out by our coaching team to keep in line with the skills and progressions taught throughout our programs. The skills throughout each level are progressive, cover the basis of gymnastics and include highly important strength and flexibility skills needed for gymnastics.
Name Spelling
In order to ensure that your gymnast’s name is spelled correctly on their certificate, please check on the timetable in the gym which will be available in the coming week. Mistakes cannot be rectified after issuing a cert.
Registration for September 2018
An email will be issued prior to the end of Term 3 with details, please keep an eye on your inbox.
We look forward to seeing everyone perform, they have been training very hard with their coaches over the last number of months in preparation and in turn our team have spent a lot of time organising the event. We hope that our gymnasts and families enjoy the day.
