Last weekend Sugarloaf Gymnastics took part in the Gymnastics Ireland National Series Level 2-4 All Around Championship at the National Indoor Arena in Blanchardstown. 32 gymnasts represented Sugarloaf Gymnastics having trained hard in the weeks prior to the competition.
Level 2A saw Squad gymnasts Laoise, Emma and Astrid compete in their second ever competition. The girls competed exceptionally well, with excellent floor scores and clean competitions all round. Laoise took the Gold All Around Title with a huge score of 46.867 and had the highest Bar and Beam score of her age group. To top this off, Laoise, who is only 6 was the highest scoring All Around gymnast out of all 107 Level 2A gymnasts in all age groups.
Level 2B saw more of the Squad gymnasts represent Sugarloaf Gymnastics in a very tough competition. Isla, Ally, Sarah and Eve competed in the under 7 category. All gymnasts posted extremely high scores and a special mention must go to them all. Ally took the Silver All Around Title, while Isla took Bronze, Sarah was 4th and Eve came 5th. The girls received extra bonus points on Bars, where Ally was the top scorer and Sarah was 2nd. The girls showed off their great Vaults too, where Isla had the highest score and Eve was 3rd.
In the Level 2B under 8 category Emma W, Beth, Caitlin, Sara and Iseult competed on Sunday morning. The girls put their hard work into practice in the arena and did the coaches proud. It was 1st and 2nd for Sugarloaf with Emma taking Gold All Around and Beth and Caitlin taking the joint Silver medal. The girls showed off their strong Vaults with a 1,2,3 from Sugarloaf from Beth, Caitlin (joint first), Emma and Sara Boda respectively. It was a 1,2,3 on Bars too, where the girls were able to show their strength by gaining bonus points. Emma was first, Beth came second and Iseult took third. Sara performed a very well poised Beam routine resulting in the second highest score.
In Level 3, Squad gymnasts Sarah Mc, Holly, Sophie and Ailbhe represented Sugarloaf Gymnastics. With numerous other competitors, the girls all had very clean competitions and did Sugarloaf proud. Sarah cleaned up and took the Gold All Around title with a high score of 44.401. She posted the highest Vault, Beam and Bars scores in her age group. Sophie missed out on the Bronze All Around by a mere 0.1 marks, but will learn from her experience and come back fighting in future competitions.
Level 3 also saw our Competitive Advanced Recreation group compete. Jessica, Ella, Sasha, Eva, Katie, Tanya, Eve W, Lucy H, Lucy W and Emily all performed exceptionally well and looked like they were enjoying every minute! Special mention must go to Ella who was 8th out of 50 competitors and to Katie who posted the 5th highest Vault score out of the 61 gymnasts in her competition.
In Level 4, Competitive Advanced Recreational gymnasts Aoife, Eileen, Aimee, Niamh, Aisling and Amy represented Sugarloaf Gymnastics.With high numbers competing in Level 4, they competed very well. They performed their Beam and Floor routines with grace and style and did their coaches proud.Coming off the back of the National 2-5 Teams competition last weekend, Niamh, Eileen Aisling and Amy increased their scores, as did Aimee and Aoife who took part in their second ever competition. Special mention must go to Amy who was 3rd All Around and had the 4th highest Beam and Floor score out of 61 gymnasts in U13.
The competition was a great success for Sugarloaf Gymnastics and it was great to be represented by 32 gymnasts. The hard work and great progress in the gym during the training period prior to the competition paid off and all gymnasts competed well. All the girls represented Sugarloaf extremely well and we are very proud of you all.
A very big well done must go to the coaching staff at Sugarloaf Gymnastics who are be very proud of their gymnasts. Thank you to the judging team for their hard work over the weekend too as well as Áine who was our volunteer for Sunday Session 1.
