As we approach the end of 2015, here is a quick recap of our Christmas Showcase week which took place from Saturday December 12th – Friday 18th we held 18 showcases for over 500 gymnasts. The gymnasts taking part ranged in age from 3 – 18 years old. We were treated to group routine as well as some individual performances.
Saturday
Saturday was our busiest day with 7 shows taking place. Our 1 hour recreation classes, 2 hour afternoon recreation classes and Squad 5 displayed the skills they have been learning since September. We saw some great skills including round offs, kick-overs and walkovers on floor, cartwheels on beam, jump to catch the high bar and members from Squad 1,2 and 3 offered great individual performances throughout the day also.
Tuesday
Our little girls and guys kicked off the weekday performances with the Mini Gym shows at 1pm and 1.50pm, all showing off the impressive skills they have learned since September. In the evening our Tuesday night training groups Squad 1 & 2, Advanced Recreation and Teen Gym took part in their showcase. We lost count of how many back flips, somersaults and handsprings we saw, there was an immense amount of talent on show!
Wednesday
Mini Gym and Petite Potentials began the day displaying all of the skill they have been learning as well as their group routine. Our evening show saw our Wednesday groups showcasing their skills. Squad 1,2,3,4 as well as our Teen groups showed us great floor routines complete with back flips, somersaults, handsprings. Our Squad gymnasts displayed the skills they have been working on since ending their competition season in the last 2 months, as well as group routines from each Squad.
Thursday
We began the day with our Mini Gym girls showing how fast they get around their warm up obstacle course, performing their group routine and showcasing skills they have been learning since September such as walking on the beam on their own. Thursday shows continued in the evening with our Teen, Advanced Recreation and Squad 1 displaying group routines as well as skills such as back flips and front somersaults.
Friday
This was the final day of shows, with 3 shows taking place. Our 1pm Mini Gym girls showed excellent work on Bars and Beam as well as their group routine. Our 1.50pm Mini Gym girls had a lot to show, including lots of bars and beam work and their group routine. The week of show cases finished with our Friday night training groups, 3 recreation groups and Squad 3. We saw an excellent display of skills from all groups as well as some interesting routines from Squad 3.
We hope that you enjoyed seeing the skills that our gymnasts have been learning since September. A big thank you to our coaches for putting together the routines, to Martina Johnston for her help during the Saturday shows and to Sharon and Jamie who organised and planned the events and kept them running so smoothly.
Draw a Duck for Georgia Campaign
At the end of November, we started the Draw a Duck for Georgia campaign suggesting €2 as a donation for decorating a duck and hanging it on the tree (read more about this by clicking here). Over 300 ducks were made by hand and available in the gym to be decorated and hung on the tree. The amount raised in aid of Asthma Research was €175, as promised Sugarloaf Gymnastics will match this and in the new year we will donate €350 to the Asthma Society of Ireland. Thank you to everyone who kindly donated, it was so nice to see the beautifully decorated ducks and well done to those who designed their own.
Sugarloaf Gymnastics Christmas Break
The gym is closed from Saturday 19th – Monday 4th January inclusive. Emails will be monitored over this time and will be replied to in due course, namely from 4th January. Please remember to keep an eye on our calendar in relation to class dates on/off – view the calendar here.
Christmas and New Years Wishes
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the gymnasts and their families as well as our coaches a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to a very exciting 2016.
