On Sunday 14th May Sugarloaf Gymnastics was represented at the Gymnastics Ireland National Series Level 2-5 Open Age Teams competition by 5 teams at the new National Indoor Arena in Blanchardstown.
Level 2A saw Laoise, Emma H, Astrid and Lucy compete for the first time. The Squad girls aged 6-8 years old did very well, had great attitudes and also stuck all of their beam routines. They posted a great result, ranking 5th in their first competition. Special mention must go to Laoise (age 6) who received the second highest score on Bars out of all 28 gymnasts who competed on Bars.
In Level 2B Emma W, Beth, Caitlin, Isla, Sara, Ally, the Squad girls aged 6, 7 and 8 years old, some in their first ever competition started off very strong with amazing scores on Bars. They continued strong throughout the competition picking up bonuses on all apparatus and sticking all of their Beam routines. Special mention must go to Beth (age 8) for receiving the highest Bar score out of all 34 competitors on Bars. We are delighted that the girls ranked 1st and are now the National Level 2B Team Champions, winning by a great margin of 2 full marks to second place.
Level 3 saw Lucy H, Ella, Caoimhe, Emily O’R from our Junior Competitive Advanced Recreation group joined with Sophie and Sarah from Squad 4 to make up the Level 3 team. The girls did extremely well especially with no falls on beam. They placed 4th, just 1.6 marks behind 3rd position.
In Level 4 Eileen, Amy, Niamh, Aisling and Ali from our Senior Competitive Advanced Recreation group took part in their second competition. It was a tough session with a high number of teams competing. The girls had superb attitudes and received very high scores on both Bars and Beam where they picked up great bonus points. While there were a few minor errors the girls have improved so much from their first competition. They placed 9th.
In Level 5 Dora, Emily, Lucy and Erin from Squad 3 competed in their final competition of the season. The girls performed well, gaining more bonuses than they had at their last competition. There were a few mistakes to learn from but despite this the team took 4th place.
The competition was a great practice run ahead of the final event of the season, the Level 2-4 All Around competition next week where Sugarloaf Gymnastics will be represented by gymnasts from our Competitive Advanced Recreation and Squad groups.
Well done to our gymnasts from this weekends competition, we are extremely proud of you all. You have all made excellent progress over the last number of months and have trained hard towards these competitions. Thank you to our coaching and judging team for their hard work in preparation and to Anne-Marie, Lesleyann and Ali who offered their services as volunteers at the competition.
