Today the Minister of State for Tourism & Sport Michael Ring announced grants of €40.5 million for 880 sports projects across the country under the Sports Capital Grant Programme (SCP). The SCP is the Government’s main vehicle for supporting the development of sports facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment. The facilities being funded today range from small-scale equipment grants, to regionally significant centres of sporting excellence. A total of 2,036 applications were made under the 2014 Programme, the second highest number ever received under a Sports Capital Programme. A total of 821 of the successful allocations are towards local sports clubs and organisations, with the remaining 59 allocated to regional or national projects.
We are thrilled to announce that Sugarloaf Gymnastics was selected to receive a grant of €10,000 which will go towards purchasing a Tumble Track. 31 clubs in Co. Wicklow were selected to receive grants and only 10 gymnastics clubs in Ireland have been specifically chosen to receive funding from the local grant programme, we are proud and delighted to have been selected.
The grant will go towards purchasing a Tumble Track for all members of the club where they can practice their tumbling skills with a little extra bounce! It is a very exciting and expensive piece of equipment. This track will be different to the Air Track that we already have in the gym, on which we have seen numerous skill developments over the past couple of months! The Tumble Track will only bring more skills and more fun to the gym!
As part of the grant allocation, Sugarloaf will still have to cover the remaining €6,000 for the Tumble Track, we have fundraising money already allocated for this. Over the coming months we will endeavor to hold several fundraising events for the safety equipment that will have to with the Tumble Track such as extra matting. We hope that all of the members of the club will support us in helping us continue to upgrade and advance our equipment which benefits all of the children (and now adults) who train in the club. If you have any interesting thoughts and ideas on fundraising or would like to help organise an event please contact Sharon and Jamie through our Contact form.
