Niamh Hutchinson (Irish 2020 Olympic Start Squad) was selected by Gymnastics Ireland’s Performance and Technical Director Sally Filmer to attend a yearly summer camp run by the European Union of Gymnastics in Tirrenia, Italy for gymnasts aged 10 – 12. Due to scheduling conflicts, neither Sharon or Jamie could attend the camp with Niamh, so Sally Batley of Renmore Gymnastics kindly attended on their behalf.
The camp is an educational camp for both coaches and gymnasts across the European Union, it is an important step in the development process of coaching knowledge. The UEG sees the camps as a necessary tool in the future for the advancement of the European gymnastics. The young gymnasts are the future of European Gymnastics and it is important to give both coaches and gymnasts the best possible training and education.
From July 10th to 22nd, Niamh trained twice a day in near 40 degrees heat. They also took a trip to Florence and to Pisa to see the famous sites and also trips to the beach for some fun.
