Sugarloaf Gymnastics has been allocated €20,000 as part of the 2017 Sports Capital Programme. The government have today announced grants of €56m to over 1,700 sporting projects around the country under the Sports Capital Programme.
The Sports Capital Programme aims to foster an integrated and planned approach to developing sports and physical recreation facilities throughout the country. In particular, its objectives are to:
assist voluntary and community organisations, national governing bodies (NGBs) of sport, local authorities and in some cases VECs and schools to develop high quality, safe, well-designed, sustainable facilities in appropriate locations and to provide appropriate equipment to help maximise participation in sport and physical recreation
prioritise the needs of disadvantaged areas in the provision of sports facilities
encourage the multi-purpose use of local, regional and national sports facilities by clubs, community organisations and national governing bodies of sport
The €20,000 will go towards the purchase of a fully customised Olympic sized sprung floor. This will replace our current red matting and red ski run that sit alongside the blue Tumble Track. The benefits of having this floor in the gym are huge to our members:
- new spring system for an optimum rebound
- high performance base increases comfort
- optimal shock absorption to prevent injuries
- increased safety
- less stress on the gymnasts body, even when practising daily
We look forward to using the floor and it’s many springs during our recreation classes for added fun during warm ups and floor time!
We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue improving and upgrading the equipment in the gym for our members. In 2016 we purchased a Fast Track and Tumble Track to help progress all of our gymnasts tumbling skills as well as replacing the matting area around the Beams with Olympic standard matting and landing areas. To give you an idea, the floor will look similar to in the below picture:
The news of the grant comes off the back of Sugarloaf Gymnastics receiving the Club Governance Award at the 2017 National Gymnastics Awards earlier this month.
